"The Tektronix 545B Oscilloscope is
a laboratory instrument designed to operate with all Tektronix letter-series or
1-series plug-in units. It features two separate time-base generators which may
be used to provide delayed sweep operation. This feature permits very accurate
time measurements and detailed observation of a waveform." (Tektronix, Manual
545B, 1964) |

The 545 series incorporate the industry
standard lab scope for nearly three decades. While the predecessors 545 and
545A were exclusive tube, the 545B has some transistor circuitry and replaced
the famous signal delay via distributed amplifier with a coax cable for viewing
the leading edge of the signal. Triggering was increased to full bandwith and
the crt had 1/3 more vertical deflection. The 545 series is very common even in
Germany as the german army bought hundreds of instruments which appear
frequently on the used instruments market. This particular scope was built in
1966 by Tektronix Heerenveen (NL). Below you see a bunch of plug-ins (D, O, K,
CA, 1A1) fitting to all 530/540/550 series scopes: |

I did hesitate to buy this scope
'as-is' from a surplus dealer as dust prevented a closer look. At home I was
able to get a display. After washing is was clear that the scope was in very
good condition, so I decided to do a full restauration. So mechanical near
perfect I just had to find three minor electrical faults before it worked
properly. |
