"The Type 310A Cathode-Ray Oscilloscope is a portable, precision, three-inch oscilloscope. Light weight, small size, and very moderate power requirements mean you can operate the instrument in locations and under conditions previously considered impractical. The regulated dc power supply will maintain the instrument's accuracy under conditions of poor line-voltage regulation. The wide range of sweep speeds, good sensivity, moderate bandpass, and ease of maintenance all combine to make the Type 310A a very versatile general-purpose test instrument." (Tektronix, Manual 310A, 1959)

The Tek 310A and it's forerunner 310 are exceptional tube instruments. The engineers at Tek were able to cramm a full featured single channel scope with crt and 30 tube circuitry (!)in an extreme small cabinet. There is nearly no wasted room inside the instrument. Nevertheless the clever hinged door chassis of the instrument ensured good maintenance accessibility. As commonly known the 310A replaced some early pcb design in the 310 with ceramic strip construction. The 321 and later the 400 series of compact scopes replaced the long built 310/310A.

The scope was in good condition when I got it. Washing and a paint job for the panels were the only cosmetic needs. It gave me some trouble with a unstable display, but replacing the power tube in the hv oscillator ensured again the hv regulation at all intensity levels. Unfortunately the screen has a couple of spots where the beam burned the phosphor. If someone has a spare crt (type 3WP2) - well, let me know!

Note: due to concentration on professional equipment I sold this intrument. This page is still left for the sake of completeness.
